As we look into the coming year, the question I find that continues to resurface is what impact will Mexico have on our recovery? I continue to read and hear about the instability within Mexico which leads their people to seek out better lives within the US...often times by moving into the US via the underground route instead of through immigration. The challenge this continues to pose to the US is how to support a significant sized group of our community that is not contributing by paying taxes. While this is not the case for all Mexican immigrants, there is a significant portion that does come into the US and works on a cash system--which leads to tax avoidance. If the US hopes to stabilize this imbalance between the Mexican economy and the US economy, both governments will need to work together and address both the illegal immagrants as well as the underlying causes (i.e. drugs trafficing, insecurity within the Mexican borders, etc.). Without addressesing the underlying causes, both governments will struggle to break the existing cycle.
